It is used as rootstock for more delicate grapes, and has also been bred to produce a number of cultivated varieties, e.g., Concord and Niagara. The wild ones are small, don't have a very high flesh to seed ratio, and are pretty tart until, as I've learned recently, they've gone through some frosts.
